Who Am I?
I’ve been married now for 5 years, living in Snowflake, Arizona nestled in the beautiful White Mountains with most of my spouse and I’s family. We have a 2 year old daughter, another kiddo on the way, and 3 dogs. We regularly enjoy traveling to Seattle, Washington to visit my sister-in-law and her family and to enjoy a few in person Mariner’s games.
Interests
- Cooking
- Cooking is a passion I discovered about 2 years ago. I’m definitely an amateur cook, but there’s something about creating a new meal and learning how to cook in new ways that’s just very satisfying. Especially because there’s nothing tech related to the hobby! My wife won’t even eat steak at a steak house now, so I can’t be THAT bad haha.
- Audio Books
- I thoroughly enjoy reading especially fantasy and self-help books, but I can never seem to find the time. Since moving to Audible a few years ago I’ve really been able to kick up my reading time, at the gym, on drives, cleaning around the house. I completely endorse any book written by Brandon Sanderson. I also really enjoyed Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Switch by Dan & Chip Heath.
- D&D
- I picked up D&D about 5 years ago with my brother-in-laws as something we wanted to try as we all enjoyed board games. None of us had ever tried it but quickly discovered once we got past all the rules that it was our new favorite way to kick back, relax, and just have fun with eachother. I’ve since developed several life long friends and even met some colleagues through D&D surprisingly. It makes a great creative outlet for those of us with active minds and a great social activity at the same time.
- Hiking/Camping
- I don’t get out NEAR enough but especially camping, my family and I love to get out and spend time in the woods. The relaxation found around a campfire talking about life with friends and family is unparalled.
- Baseball
- I was a big baseball fanatic growing up until about highschool, where the team just wasn’t a fit for me but I’ve always enjoyed the sport. Shortly after marrying my wife Shannin, we really got into following the Seattle Mariners as my sister-in-law (who lives in Seattle) and her family are close with a lot of the team and we go watch games at the stadium just about every time we visit. We are now very avid followers of the Mariners.
- Automation
- I have a love for automation and simplicity. I firmly believe if you have to do something more than once, it should be automated if possible, simplified if it can’t be automated, and heavily documented if you can’t do either. I take this approach to my life as well as my work and I find it really makes a difference in quality of work and stress levels.
- Powershell
- This goes hand in hand with my interest in Automation. The sheer capability of PowerShell and it’s open nature to user created modules etc, has really peaked my mind since I first really dipped my toes into it about 4 years ago. I still consider myself amateur at this but I do thoroughly enjoy using PowerShell.
